3D Printing

3D Printing

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, revolutionizes the production process by building objects layer by layer from digital models. This technology offers unparalleled versatility, allowing for the creation of complex geometries that would be challenging, or impossible to achieve through traditional manufacturing methods such as CNC machining or injection molding.

Why 3D Print?

3D printing offers several key advantages:

  • Firstly, it enables rapid prototyping and significantly reduced lead times from design conception to physical realization, accelerating the product development cycle.

  • Secondly, 3D printing offers greater design freedom, allowing for the creation of complex geometries without the constraints imposed by traditional machining processes.

  • Thirdly, waste material is minimized in the additive manufacturing process. 3D printers use only the exact amount of material needed for the object without the need for a larger piece of stock to be used then milled away and wasted. This makes additive manufacturing the go-to option for sustainable manufacturing.

If you do not see the colour or material you are looking for, we can try to source it for you.

Normally Stocked Materials Include:

  • PLA - Polylactic Acid - Black, Grey, Glow in the Dark, Red, Blue

    • Applications: Prototyping, decorative items, educational models, low-stress parts.

    • Strengths: Biodegradable, easy to print with, wide range of colours available, low warping tendency, paints adhere well.

    • Weaknesses: Brittle compared to other materials, limited temperature resistance, not suitable for high-stress applications.

  • PETG - Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol - Black, White, Translucent

    • Applications: Mechanical parts, prototypes, functional objects, food-safe containers.

    • Strengths: High impact resistance, excellent layer adhesion, translucent option available, suitable for outdoor use, chemical resistant.

    • Weaknesses: Prone to stringing and oozing during printing, requires precise temperature control, can be difficult to post-process, difficult to paint.

  • TPU - Thermoplastic Polyurethane - Black

    • Applications: Flexible parts, gaskets, phone cases, shoe insoles, recoil pads.

    • Strengths: High elasticity and flexibility, resistant to abrasion and oil, excellent layer bonding.

    • Weaknesses: Susceptible to warping if not properly cooled, challenging to print due to flexibility, limited colour options.

  • PC - Polycarbonate - White

    • Applications: Functional prototypes, engineering parts, high-strength components, transparent objects.

    • Strengths: Exceptional strength and toughness, high temperature resistance, abrasion resistant.

    • Weaknesses: Requires a heated chamber for printing to prevent warping, prone to layer delamination if not properly cooled, can be challenging to print due to high printing temperatures.
