Printed Circuit Board Design

Doan Design has served clients across Calgary, Edmonton and Chestermere with dependable, custom printed circuit boards. Our board designs range from simple, two-layer boards to multi-layer packages with hundreds of components. Components can be surface mount, or through-hole, or a mix of both.

We have experience designing boards requiring:

  • High Current Capacity

  • Analog and digital signals

  • Single layer designs

  • Multi layer designs

  • High temperature ratings

  • High density / compact size

  • Compatibility with existing development boards

Circuit Schematic Design

Circuit design is often the most time consuming part of the PCB design process. Some clients may choose to supply their own schematic, ready for layout, while other clients may wish to have the design and prototyping done for them. We offer both layout services as well as prototyping and design services.

So What is a PCB Anyway?

PCBs, or Printed Circuit Boards, serve as the backbone of modern electronics, enabling the mounting and interconnection of electronic components through conductive pathways on an, often rigid, board. They provide a compact and efficient means of integrating complex circuits, and allow us to miniaturize otherwise large circuits.

Though the most common material for circuit boards is fibreglass, some designs can use an aluminum base or a flexible polymer.

Printed circuit boards are an efficient means of mass producing compact and cost effective electronics. PCBs are infinitely customizable and can be made to suit any task.

File Generation

Once the circuit schematic has been finalized, the next step is to move onto board layout. Here, we work out which components to order and where all of the components will be physically located on the board. When layout is done you will be provided with the following files:

  • Bill of Materials (BOM): Lists all the different components, supplier, component values, prices, etc.

  • Fabrication Files: Gerber files and drill files, these are required to create the pads and traces on the PCB.

  • Production Files: Includes silk screen, solder paste, and coordinate files along with any special instructions the board house may need when assembling the final product.
